I will take Register with Google as an example. Click on Register with Google. In some cases, it will ask you to log in to your Google account again. Otherwise, it will simply redirect it here.

How To Set Up An API On Janitor AI?

Although Janitor AI is currently free to use, you must obtain an API key if you want to chat with the characters.

You have 3 options to obtain an API key. They are OpenAI API Key, OpenAI Reverse Proxy, and Kobold AI API Key. I will use OpenAI API Key as an example to show you the process of setting up the API.

Using OpenAI API Key

OpenAI is not free. They offer a $5 trial, which equals about 500 messages. So if you want to use Janitor AI for free, you can chat with character bots only for the first 500 messages.

If you see an error about quota or billing, it means that you have used up your $5 credit for the OpenAI trial. After that, you will need to pay OpenAI to use their API.

Note: This key is only stored on your local device and is never sent to the server.

Here is the step-by-step guide on getting API from OpenAI

1. Register or Log in to your OpenAI account.
2. Click on your Profile at the top right corner of the screen.
3. Click on API keys.
4. Click on Create new secret key
5. Name your new secret key and click on Create new secret key again to get your API

Now it shows the API Key is valid. Click on Save Settings, and you can start chatting with the bots now!

Using OpenAI Reverse Proxy

OpenAI reverse proxies are contributed by the community. However, they can be slow or unstable, and you might get strange results sometimes.

Using Kobold AI API Key

You can also access Janitor AI using the Kobold AI API key. However, this option is not free. You can rent the GPU for $0.20 per hour.

How To Chat On Janitor AI?

After successfully setting up your profile and API, you're all set to interact with the various characters featured on the site.

1. Explore the array of characters on the Trending page, or navigate through the other tabs to discover a character that catches your interest. The Search function is also available for you to find specific characters.



2. Select a Character. This action will direct you to the character's individual page. Press the Chat with (character) button below. Now, you're ready to engage in a chat with the chosen character.

How To Create A Character On Janitor AI?

1. Start at the Janitor AI Homepage. Select Create Character, located in the top right corner of the page.



2. Complete all the necessary fields as desired.
3. Upload an Avatar to visually represent your character.
4. Choose the appropriate Tags for your character.
5. Decide if you want your Character bot to be public or private and whether it should be safe for work (SFW) or not safe for work (NSFW).

6. After you've filled everything out, hit the Create character button.
7. Your character is now ready for a chat.

Note: If your character is set to Public, other users will also be allowed to chat with your character.
